Indigenous Cultural & Intellectual Property

Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) refers to the rights and interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in their cultural heritage, including traditional knowledge, cultural expressions, stories, artworks, languages and other cultural assets. Respecting and protecting ICIP requires careful consideration of both legal rights and cultural protocols, particularly where existing IP laws may not provide complete protection.

How can we assist:

  • Advising on ICIP considerations in commercial, research, creative and technology projects.
  • Negotiating benefit-sharing, access and collaboration arrangements involving Indigenous knowledge, cultural resources and innovation.
  • Licensing, permissions and consent frameworks for cultural content and traditional knowledge.
  • Development of culturally appropriate protocols and agreements

Stonier IP acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first Australians and the traditional owners and custodians of country. We recognise their enduring and continuing connection to lands, waters and community. We appreciate their rich and positive contributions to scientific knowledge and society. We pay our respects to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and to their Elders, both past and present.
